Philip Stokes

Phil is a Melbourne based artist who has worked with glass since the late eighties. After graduating with honours at Monash University in 2000, he has worked for several established glass-makers, established his own studio in Fitzroy with business partner Marcus Dillon and has co-founded Neoindustria, a community group seeking tenancy for a glass centre at the historic St Helliers Convent Abbotsford.

With a background in theatre Phil has found that handling hot glass is surprisingly similar to the stage; spontenaity, improvisation and chance, are all elements that he enjoys in his work, both in the making and in the final installation.
