Tasting Notes: Medium Garnet/Red russet colour. Subtle aromas of sun warmed plum skins, brambly berries and dry forest bark. Smooth evolution on the palate defined by supple fruit tannin leading to the mid palate. Plum pudding, red berries and musk sticks on the palate with a fine dusting of cinnamon and nutmeg dessert spice completes the finish.
Winemaking Notes:
Harvest: 25th of March
Vinification & Elevage: Fruit is sorted, crushed, and fermented on skins for 14 days. The wine is then pressed to French oak barriques and a large foudre for natural malolactic con version. The wine receives a "spring racking" and is returned to oak for a total maturation period of 10 months.
Viticultural Notes: The grapes for this wine were with viticultural practices based around maintaining balance in the vineyards, sustainability and responsiveness to changing environmental conditions.
Winter rains were substantial and by the end of spring we had full and healthy vine canopies. The conditions around flowering were challenging leading to low fruit yields. The season progressed with very mild conditions extending the ripening period for harvest well into Autumn for some varieties. The 2020 wines reflect our part of the world and our cool climate.
