Heady aromas of dark fl owers, raspberries, maraschino & Morello cherries, restrained oak & a hint of citrus precede a long, supple palate of small red fruits & oak are underpinned by a fi ne, slatey backbone. 97 POINTS - JEREMY OLIVER
Tasting Notes: Heady aromas of dark flowers, raspberries, maraschino and Morello cherries, restrained cedary oak and a hint of citrus oil precede a long, supple palate whose translucently clear small red fruits and gentle oak are underpinned by a fine, slatey backbone. Wrapped in mouthwatering acidity, it’s supremely elegant and will build considerably with time in the bottle.
Winemaking Notes: Hand-picked 27th March. Sorted, partly de-stemmed (50% whole bunch), short cold soak, natural primary and malolactic fermentation, pressed to French oak (20% new). 10 months in oak, racked off lees just prior to bottling. Unfined and unfiltered.
Viticultural Notes: Swallowfield is located in Gembrook, making it the southernmost vineyard in the Yarra Valley. While Gembrook is known for its volcanic derived red soils, Swallowfield sits on a granite outcrop. These quartz rich soils are perfect for growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
‘Terre’ translates into ‘Earth’ and represents the incredible soils on this property. After several warm growing seasons, 2017 was a return to a classic Yarra Valley harvest producing balanced, elegant wines with wonderful natural acidity.
