Tasting Notes: This is a wine of distinct personality that is not short of aroma! A heady perfume of roses, spiced plum and pickled cherries meet wild forest herbs and warm earthy notes. The palate is full and flavorsome, typical of this subregion of the Yarra. Plum fruits and clove combine with a variety of spices, while layers of ribbon like tannin make for a compelling finish of fine length.
Winemaking Notes: Hand-picked on the 26th of February
Fruit is fermented as 100% whole bunches, 4 weeks on skins. The wine is then pressed to 3rd fill puncheons for indigenous malolatic conversion, then sulphured on lees. 10 months in oak, then racked twice prior to bottling.
Viticultural Notes: The fruit for this single vineyard wine is grown on our south facing Briarty 9 vineyard in Gruyere.
Grown on ancient, mountain derived sandy clay loams, these rocky soils combined with our forty year-old vines are at the heart of this wine.
Optimal conditions for both flowering and fruitset in the vineyards gave well balanced yields with plenty of promise leading into the 2019 harvest. A dry January and February followed, culminating in a relatively compressed vintage, though attention to detail in the vineyards gave winemakers wonderfully balanced fruit with concentration of flavour and exceptional natural acidity.overnight temperatures provided good natural acidity and concentrated wines at lower alcohol levels.
