“There’s a prettiness to this, and a power. This is impressive. Strawberries and cherries, some musk-like notes, ample woodsy spice and general leaf notes. Oak adds silk, along with a subtle smokiness. There’s a completeness to this.”
- Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front 2023
Tasting Notes: This Estate Pinot opens with a wealth of red cherry, raspberry and red plum fruits. Earthy notes with an element of dried herb and rosemary. The palate shows a similar fruit profile, yet with nice suede tannins and spiced nuts. This wine flows well with a delicate freshness. A great year for Yarra Valley Pinot.
Winemaking Notes: Picked between the 4th and 21st of March
Vinification & Elevage: Partially destemmed as whole berries, 10% of fruit was fermented as whole clusters. On skins for 2 weeks then pressed to French oak (10% new) for malolatic conversion, aged in oak for 10 months on lees prior to bottling.
Viticultural Notes: The fruit for this Pinot Noir comes from vineyards in Gruyere (MV6, 114, 115), Coldstream (777, MV6) and Woori Yallock (MV6).
2022 will be remembered for the tiniest yields in a decade resulting from poor flowering conditions in our parts of the Yarra Valley. The quality of the resultant wines of this vintage however are outstanding with both concentration and finess.
