Rochford Single Vineyard 'Premier' Pinot Noir 2020

RRP: $130.00
The fruit for this wine comes from Block 4 on the Hill Road Vineyard this block always delivers our best fruit and is a true expression of our Coldstream terrior.
Tasting Notes: Whilst reflective of the cooler 2020 vintage, this premier Pinot speaks truly of its DNA of site and place, and it shines. Fragrant spices of clove and cinnamon meet red currant and cherry fruits with forest floor and truffle notes on the nose. There are also some stoney/quarry mineral aromas adding layers. The palate shows a wonderful sweep of wild red berries, walnut and insistent tannin only Block 4 can deliver. Cooling acidity of the season is a feature, yet this wine is very composed and should hold well in the cellar or it cries out for large glasses to enjoy now!
Winemaking Notes: Hand-picked on the 12th of March
Vinification & Elevage: Fruit was sorted then wild yeast fermented as 80% whole berries and 20% as whole bunches, on skins for 3 weeks. Pressed to barrel (30% new French oak) for natural malolactic conversion, sulphured on lees in oak for 10 months.
125 dozen produced.
Viticultural Notes: Pinot Noir clone: Block 4 – MV6
2020 was a long and cool growing season in the Yarra Valley. Winter rains were substantial and by the end of spring we had full and healthy vine canopies. The conditions around flowering were challenging leading to low fruit yields. The season progressed with very mild conditions extending the ripening period for harvest well into Autumn for some varieties. The 2020 wines reflect our part of the world and our cool climate.
