Tasting Notes: This blend has ripe scents of blood plum and black cherry that mix nicely with woodsy spice and a little black peppercorn. It is a rich and mouth filling wine with darker fruits of plenty of substance. There is rocky / ironstone elements here too and the ripe tannins are plenty, full but well measured given the volume of fruit.
Winemaking Notes: Optimal conditions for both flowering and fruit set in the vineyard gave well balanced yields with plenty of promise leading into the 2019 harvest. A dry January and February followed, culminating in a relatively compressed vintage, though attention to detail in the vineyards gave winemakers wonderfully balanced fruit with concentration of flavour and exceptional natural acidity.
Viticultural Notes: The Heathcote wine region in Victoria is renowned as one of Australia's premier regions for Shriaz. Located north of the Great Dividing Range, Heathcote is 90 minutes north of Melbourne with an altitude of around 200 metres. These ancient Cambrian soils are said to be 550 million years old, deep red coloured and mottled with lime which imparts low vigor to the vines growing in it. The fruit from this wine is sourced from the Northern end of Heathcote.
